4-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech (2026)
Full Itinerary, Cost & Booking Guide
Want to experience the real Sahara? A 4-day desert tour from Marrakech is the best way to do it. Three days gets you to the dunes and back. Four days gives you a full day inside the Sahara — time to explore, breathe it in, and actually feel the desert instead of just passing through it.
Quick Answer: This tour costs €120–€500 per person depending on group size and camp type. Private and shared tours both available. Book direct with us — no platform markup.
Why Choose 4 Days Instead of 3?
On a 3-day tour from Marrakech, Day 1 is entirely driving. Day 2 gets you to the dunes at sunset. Day 3 is sunrise, breakfast, then 9 hours back in the car. You see the desert. You sleep in it once. Then it is over.
On a 4-day tour, Day 3 is yours completely. No driving, no rushing. You wake up inside Erg Chebbi, watch the morning light change the dunes from gold to copper, and spend the whole day as you like — sandboarding, a 4x4 excursion deep into the desert, visiting a nomadic Berber family, or listening to live Gnawa music in Khamlia village.
That is the real reason to choose 4 days. The Sahara is not something you rush through — it is something you settle into. One night is never quite enough.
Two Route Options — Choose What Fits Your Trip
Both options cover the same highlights. The difference is where you finish.
Option A — Most Popular
Classic Loop Back to Marrakech
Start and finish in Marrakech. Follows the full circuit through the High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou, Dades Valley, Todra Gorge, Erg Chebbi, and home.
Best for: Travelers flying in and out of Marrakech
Option B — Skip the Return Drive
One-Way: End in Fes
Same desert experience, but instead of driving back to Marrakech, the tour continues north through Ziz Valley and cedar forests to Fes. Saves the 9-hour return drive entirely.
Best for: Travelers continuing to Fes or Chefchaouen

Full Day-by-Day Itinerary
Classic Loop — Option A (Marrakech → Desert → Marrakech)

Day 1
Marrakech → High Atlas → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley
Your driver picks you up at 7:30 AM. Within an hour you are climbing into the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n'Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters — Morocco's highest road. Berber villages on cliff faces, sweeping valley views, and air that gets noticeably cooler as you climb.
First major stop: Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage fortress and filming location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia. Walk through the clay towers before the crowds arrive. Lunch nearby, then east through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses to Dades Valley for the night.

Day 2
Dades Gorge → Todra Gorge → Rissani → Merzouga Desert Camp
Morning walk into Dades Gorge before breakfast — red and ochre limestone walls that glow in the early light. Then east to Todra Gorge, where canyon walls rise 300 meters straight up from a cold river below. The gap between the walls is barely 10 meters in places. One of Morocco's best short walks.
Through the Ziz Valley palm oasis and the fossil town of Rissani — ancient caravan capital, still home to an authentic weekly market — you arrive in Merzouga by late afternoon. Your camel is waiting. A one-hour sunset trek takes you into Erg Chebbi as the dunes turn gold, then deep red. Campfire dinner and Berber music under a sky with zero light pollution.

Day 3 — The Reason You Chose 4 Days
Full Day in the Sahara Desert
Wake before dawn and climb the nearest dune for the Sahara sunrise. The light comes up slowly — pale grey, then a thin line of orange, then suddenly the whole sky is burning and the dunes glow like they are lit from inside. No photograph does it justice.
The day is yours. Choose from:
- 4x4 desert excursion across open Erg Chebbi to the far dunes
- Sandboarding on the steep dune faces
- Nomadic Berber family visit — a genuine, non-staged encounter
- Khamlia village — live Gnawa music from the Sub-Saharan community
- Quad biking across the desert *(optional, extra cost)*
- Or simply: sit, drink tea, read, and do absolutely nothing at all
Second sunset camel trek. Second night at camp. Two sunrises, two sunsets — this is what the extra day gives you.

Day 4
Sahara Sunrise → Ouarzazate → Tizi n'Tichka → Marrakech
One final sunrise from the dunes. Breakfast at camp. Then the return journey begins.
Honest note: Day 4 is around 9 hours of driving with stops every 2 hours. If mountain roads affect you, bring motion sickness tablets for the Tizi n'Tichka section. No other operator tells you this upfront — we do.
The route passes through Ouarzazate for lunch, back through the Atlas, and arrives in Marrakech between 7:00–8:00 PM.
Private Tour vs Shared Group — Which Fits You?
| Private Tour | Shared Group Tour | |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle | Dedicated 4x4 for your group only | Shared minivan — max 10 people |
| Flexibility | Stop anywhere, anytime | Fixed schedule |
| Guide | 100% focused on your group | Shared guide |
| Price | Higher per person | Lower per person |
| Best for | Couples, families, friends | Solo travelers, budget travelers |
Simple rule: if two or more of you travel together, private almost always works out better value than you expect — and the experience is in a completely different league.
Standard Camp vs Luxury Desert Camp
Standard Camp
Private tent, shared bathroom facilities, warm blankets, full traditional Moroccan dinner and breakfast. Comfortable, authentic, everything you need for a real Sahara night.
Luxury Camp
Private ensuite tent with a real bed, hot shower, flush toilet, quality linen, and Moroccan lantern lighting. Electricity until midnight. Genuine comfort in the middle of the Sahara.
Both camps sit inside the Erg Chebbi dunes. The stars and the silence are identical at both. The difference is only in how you sleep and shower.
How Much Does a 4-Day Desert Tour Cost? (2026)
